Arowana is known as the jewel of aquarium fish. They are large, unique and beautiful. They are also very rare in the wild, this adds to their overall value. All arowanas come from South America, Southeast Asia and Africa. There are no arowanas native to North America or Europe because they cannot survive the cold climates.

There are many different types of arowanas in the world, like the silver arowana (which is most commonly kept in an aquarium), bony tongue or Indian Arowana, Asian red tail catfish, black arowana and the South American green arowana.

Arowanas can grow up to 2 feet long in the wild. The average arowana is about 18 inches long, so they need a large enough environment to ensure they stay healthy and happy. This means you should have at least a 50 gallon aquarium for one silver arowana fish.
